About Kidsafe

Kidsafe is a national organisation which speaks up for our children. It aims to reduce the number of children being killed or maimed from injuries. Kidsafe has branches in every state and territory, and is recognised as a leader in community based and professional activity related to child safety.

Kidsafe in the Northern Territory

Kids playing in playgroundNorthern Territory children in both urban and rural areas are three times more likely to die or to be injured than children living elsewhere in Australia. This frightening statistic is due in part to the Northern Territory's unique climate and geography, as well as our lifestyle and culture. The Northern Territory Division of Kidsafe began in 1983 and works to reduce the terrible toll of accidents on Territory children.

Aims and objectives

Kidsafe NT seeks to achieve its aims through:

  • researching the causes of child accidents;
  • raising public awareness and conducting education campaigns about child safety issues;
  • promoting improvements in product design, and in the design of homes, playgrounds and other places where children are;
  • lobbying for legislative changes that will offer children protection from hazards.
